2022 Gift Ideas
The following is my list of what I consider to be the “top 10” 2022 gift ideas for a DIYer. These are items that I personally own and use in my shop. I have not simply browsed for random items online.
They are tools and PPE that any DIYer would want in their shop in 2022. They are listed in the order of least expensive to most. I’ve also included links to several popular retailers for your convenience. Be sure to shop around for the best prices!
Firm Grip Dura-Knit Gloves
Firm Grip is the work glove of choice in my shop. From leather to fingerless to nitrile, they make gloves for all sorts of work environments. They recently released the Dura-Knit glove and I love it. These durable gloves fit great and have a large palm grip area that enables you to grip tools and materials with precision.
Firm Grip Dura-Knit gloves are available at:
DEWALT Tape Measure
Every DIYer needs a tape measure, and this one has served me well for several years. This 25′ tape has 13′ of straighter standout and can survive a 60′ drop onto packed soil. This is one tough tape!
This DEWALT Tape Measure is available at:
RZ Mask M2 Mesh Mask
I’ve tried many different styles of filtration masks in my 20+ years of construction and DIYer experience. There are several good ones out there, but the RZ Mask M2 mesh mask is my favorite. This washable mask contains the RZ F1 Filter that removes up to 99.9% of particulates down to .1 micron in size. It’s really comfortable to wear and doesn’t fog up my glasses, even when wearing them for log periods of time.
The RZ Mask M2 Mesh Dust Mask is available at:
Wagner Furno 500 Heat Gun
A heat gun is a handy tool to have in the shop. From shaping PVC pipe to drying spackle to removing dents out of a plastic vehicle bumper, a heat gun is a very versatile tool. The Wagner Furno 500 multiplies that versatility with 12 temperature settings and 2 fan settings.
The Wagner Furno 500 Heat Gun is available at:
Empire 24″ Magnetic Box Level
What DIYer hasn’t used a level at some point? There’s all sorts of level brands out there, but Empire has been my go-to brand for years. Their 24″ magnetic box level is a great tool to keep in the shop. It’s not too big, not too small, and looks and feels like a high-end precision instrument.
The Empire 24″ Box Level is available at:
DEWALT Random Orbital Sander
An orbital sander is another one of those “must-have” tools to own. Sure, you can get by with hand sanding (in some cases you don’t have a choice), but an orbital sander makes the job much easier and quicker. I’ve owned DEWALT orbital sanders for 15+ years and they’ve never failed me. This particular model is comfortable to use and is variable speed which is really convenient.
The DEWALT Random Orbital Sander is available at:
DEWALT Atomic 20-Volt Brushless Impact Driver
I wish I had an impact driver while on the jobsite 20 years ago! These drivers change the game when it comes to screws, bolts, and fasteners. Ordinary drivers are nice to have but if you really want your DIYer to work with ease, get them an impact driver. The DEWALT atomic impact driver is compact and lighter and easier to work with, especially in tight spaces.
The DEWALT Atomic Impact Driver is available at:
DEWALT Atomic 20-Volt Brushless Hammer Drill
I think most homeowners have a basic drill lying around the house. They come in handy for nearly any home project you can imagine, such as hanging picture frames, building and fixing wood items, light mixing, and so much more. The DEWALT Atomic 20-Volt Brushless Hammer Drill is a handy and compact drill to own. Not everyone will need the hammer option, but, in speaking from experience, it’s nice to have available.
The DEWALT Atomic 20-Volt Brushless Hammer Drill is available at:
DEWALT Oscillating Multi-Tool
An oscillating multi-tool is another one of those “game changers”. I own the corded DEWALT oscillating multi-tool and I can’t tell you how many times it’s come to the rescue. From making cuts in tight spaces to sanding in hard-to-reach places, this tool makes the DIYer life so much easier!
The DEWALT Oscillating Multi-Tool is available at:
DEWALT 12″ Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw
I was hesitant including this saw because not everyone would want or need this particular model. This is currently the highest end DEWALT miter saw and it’s worth every penny in my opinion. This powerful saw has a 12″ blade on a slider which allows you to cut both small and large boards. The integrated XPS technology in this model gives you a lighted cut line more accurate than a laser and I love using it. If you want to gift your DIYer a spectacular miter saw, you can’t go wrong with this one.
The DEWALT 12″ Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw is available at:
Bonus Gift: DEWALT Rolling Miter Saw Stand
This has been one of the best tool accessory purchases I have ever made. Owning a rolling miter saw stand is so convenient! I move my miter saw around a lot and, the older I get, the harder on my back it gets. Not everyone will need a mobile stand, but if you’re going to get one, buy this one. Especially if you own the DEWALT miter saw shown above.
