In this article, I’m going to show you three fun ways that you can add curb appeal to your home! I did this by repainting my front entry door, repainting a bench on our front porch, and building, painting and installing window shutters.
We actually have several projects in mind for the exterior of our house, including repainting our wood siding. For now, though, as winter approaches, I wanted to tackle an easy project like this.
The great thing is, once we’re ready to repaint the entire house, the shutters can easily be pulled off the house and the bench moved aside.

I’ve linked to several different retailers below for your convenience. I encourage you to shop around as I’ve found that each item may sell for less at a different retailer.
I Increased Our Curb Appeal With Wagner And DecoArt
For each of these three projects, I used DecoArt Americana Decor Curb Appeal Paint. This high quality paint is designed to be used for exterior applications, and the colors that are available to choose from are awesome. We chose Victorian Yellow and love it!
The great folks at Wagner sent me a FLEXiO 3000 sprayer to use for these projects, and let me tell you, this sprayer made painting easy and fun.
The FLEXiO 3000 sprayer is a great choice for any type of home painting project. It can paint a wall 10 times faster than a brush or put a fine finish on furniture, thus saving time and effort. I was also surprised at how fast clean-up is; there’s only five parts to rinse clean! You’ve got to get you one of these sprayers!
Repainting The Front Door
There was a little bit of prep work here, but nothing difficult. I went ahead and pulled the door off and removed the door lock, handles, and hinges. I also taped up the little glass panels with Frog Tape. After that I laid the door on some sawhorses, which made painting with the FLEXiO 3000 sprayer a breeze.
Paint one side, let it dry, then flip the door over (make sure the painted side is lying on a padded surface) and paint the other side. Once completely dry, remove your Frog Tape, reinstall the hinges, rehang the door, and reinstall the door lock and handles.
Installing Window Shutters
Adding faux window shutters to your home is a great way to increase curb appeal. There are many different manufactured shutter styles out there that you can buy. I chose the DIY route and made my shutters out of pallet wood for a more rustic look, and then added a coat of paint.
As you can see in the pictures above, making shutters isn’t difficult at all. I went with a pretty basic design for rustic shutters. You don’t even have to be too picky with wood selection either; notice how I included boards with flaws and cracks. For me, the more distressed it is, the better!
When joining the boards, I find it better to drill pilot holes and use screws, along with using wood glue.
Repainting Porch Furniture
We have a large bench on our front porch which, after a fresh coat of paint, was perfect for tying in the door and window shutters.
You may have different pieces of furniture, or none at all. Why not consider adding an inviting splash of color to the front of your home with a few pieces of patio furniture? They don’t have to be expensive. If you already have patio furniture, give it new life with Wagner and DecoArt!
So here it is, three easy ways that you can increase the curb appeal of your home. Are you planning to update the look of your home? Share your project ideas in the comments!
